Pathway · Growing

Growth is beautiful, and it is dangerous.

Every system in a church has a ceiling. Sunday hospitality that worked with eighty starts to fray at two hundred. A giving spreadsheet that felt honest at a hundred thousand looks amateur at four hundred thousand. The pathway teaches the pastor of a growing church to see the ceilings early — and to rebuild through them without losing the culture that produced the growth.

The growth ceilings, in order

~120
The Sunday hospitality ceiling. The pastor stops recognising every face; the greet-and-follow-up loop must become a system.
~200
The volunteer coordination ceiling. Rotas that were carried in the pastor's head now need a named lead and a shared calendar.
~300
The finance ceiling. Bookkeeping must formalise; a real chart of accounts, monthly close, and audited controls replace the founder's spreadsheet.
~400
The staffing ceiling. The first non-preaching hire (operations or executive pastor) becomes the highest-leverage hire the church will ever make.
~600
The building ceiling. Second service, new venue, or plant — the decision cannot be postponed further without cost.
~800
The leadership pipeline ceiling. Growth stops being about seats and starts being about who is being formed to lead thirty of them.

What you will build

  • A capacity model showing which system breaks next, and when
  • A written hospitality and connections process for two hundred plus
  • A finance stack that can pass an outside audit
  • An operations org chart with real decision rights
  • A hiring plan for the next three roles, with budget
  • A discipleship pathway that keeps producing leaders under growth pressure
  • A brand and communications rhythm the growth cannot dilute
“We had five great years of growth and one very hard year of staff conflict. MBS gave us the language for what had actually broken — and the framework to rebuild before we lost the church we were becoming.”

How you will study

Most growing-church pastors sit in the flagship Ministry Executive Program, and often finish it with a lay executive-pastor sitting alongside them. Some choose to move directly into the Multi-Location Residency when the second-service or campus question is on the current year's board agenda.
